Your Honest Deceit 1

Rating: ♦♦♦

I don’t know how they do it, but Drama Queen always manages to bring over the most gorgeous manga. Say what you want about the content of the series, but you’ve got to admit that the art is stellar. Your Honest Deceit is a salary-man story with a twist.

Kuze has been harboring a crush on his sempai at the lawfirm he’s working at ever since he attended a lecture he was giving while Kuze was in college. Kuze kept his feelings to himself. Number one, Kitahara-sensei was married. Number two, it really wouldn’t be proper to have feelings for your teacher.

Seven years have passed and Kuze is working as an assistant to Kitahara at his law office. Kitahara is now missing his wedding band and is starting to show interest in the younger Kuze.

It’s sweet, cute and, in all honesty, aside from the age difference, it’s much like the rest of the salary-man love stories out there. Very nice if you’re a fan of that genre, but nothing really out of the ordinary.

Also, included in this volume is a series of stories revolving around an overprotective student and his teacher who is addicted to all things cute–including his student. Maybe I just like student/teacher romances more than salary-man stories because I found the two stories included in this volume completely endearing.

Drama Queen seems to really have their fingers on the pulse of what mature BL readers want and the format they want them in. Even when I don’t completely love a series, I always find bits and pieces in it to enjoy. This one is never going to be one of my favorites, but it certainly wasn’t a waste of money. If salary-man love is your cup of tea, then this one is going to be right up your alley.
