Poison Cherry Drive

Rating: ♦♦

Hello, wackiness. Really, that’s about all I can say about this book. It’s definitely not my cup of tea, but I know that there’s a whole contingent of fans out there who just love stories that are on the absurd side of the spectrum and who are going to have a lot of great things to say about this book. It’s definitely pretty and if it had a more linear story-line, I would find myself liking it more, but it’s just a set of loosely intertwined vignettes with lots of madcap adventures holding it together.

The basic plot is that there’s this organization that calls itself Poison Cherry Drive. They claim to do anything for anyone, but specialize in helping out pretty gay boys. Over the course of the book we see just how they help out the people who come to them and just who’s funding them to allow them to be able to offer their help.

And that’s really all there is to it.

The sex isn’t that graphic, the jokes weren’t that funny. Honestly, the only thing I liked about this one was the art. I kept getting pissy at the art because the crappy-ass story line kept getting in the way of me enjoying the drawings.

I wasn’t that irritated at the book while reading it, but now going back and trying to write about it, I find myself getting more and more cranky with it. The entire book seemed to be one damned in-joke that the manga-ka had with herself and her cronies and never let the reader in on it.

While I’m thrilled that Kitty Media is getting involved in the BL world, I hope that they bring over more quality work like Row Takakura and Asami Tojo and quit licensing crap like this.
