Love Recipe 1

Rating: ♦♦♦♦♦

There is a rush of excitement when I pick up a brand new series, one that I was not already familiar with through scanlations. I never know if it’s going to be good or absolute crap. I’m at my happiest when I find a series that starts off being really good, then find out that not only is it really good, but it’s sexy, endearing, hysterical, all-around perfect and it leaves you hoping and praying that the next volume will come out quickly.

We’ve got Ozawa, who just landed his dream job at a publishing firm. He’s full of excitement, dedication and ready to give his all to the company. Of course what he didn’t realize was that he was going to be working for a Boys Love publisher.

His first assignment is to get the finished drawings from Kakyoin, a BL artist who is notorious for missing deadlines. No one told Ozawa that Kakyoin was a male manga artist, and that sometimes an editor has to get up close and personal with the artist to get the manga in before the deadline.

Add in a trio of female assistants, fully decked out in EGL finery, Higashizato’s adorable habit of drawing the main characters as an angel bunny or as a devil bunny at opportune moments and you’ve got something that is truly funny and completely endearing.

Make sure to check out the covers of the doujinshi that they have Ozawa read when they’re trying to get him to understand the appeal of the genre. I spotted references to Prince of Tennis, Saiyuki, Sailor Moon and Fullmetal Alchemist. Not to mention the fact that the section chief of the production company completely reminds me of Kaori Knight from Sailor Moon.

This series is going to be a lot of fun for all BL fans. It gently pokes fun at the genre and the fans while sucking you in and making you a fan of it in turn. Rush out and grab this one, it’s really too cute for words.
